Platform Unification Strategy

Wilmington Trust, a division of M&T Bank, was operating with over 65+ siloed platforms supporting various lines of business. This fragmentation created inefficiencies, inconsistencies, and an overall lack of cohesive user experience for both clients and internal teams.

As VP Senior Product Designer, I was tasked with leading the development of a strategic UX vision to unify these platforms. My goal was to create a scalable design framework that could align user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility — and support future platform consolidation.

I led discovery efforts across business units through stakeholder workshops, interviews, journey mapping, and competitive analysis. I developed a comprehensive UX strategy, including a scalable information architecture, modular design patterns, and research-backed prototypes using Figma. I collaborated closely with product owners, line of business leaders, technology partners, and executive leadership across the United States and Europe, to align priorities, identify dependencies, and define a phased rollout approach. I also established processes to support future implementation — including documentation, governance recommendations, and reusable UX templates.

While the full implementation was paused due to broader organizational changes, the strategic foundation I built helped shape future planning and became a reference model for other UX initiatives across the enterprise. It demonstrated the value of unified experience thinking and strengthened internal advocacy for scalable design systems.
